Namaste(Pronounced: Nah-Mah-Stay)
"I honor the place in you where the spirit dwells. I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of life and of peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, We are one." After I officially decided to purchase my first llama, mentor Becky WIllhite took me to visit Tom and Jean Carlisle's herd at lla lla lland llama ranch in Janesville, Iowa. A very good sized 3 month old female with perfect ears immediately caught my attention and with a little push and a down payment, I acquired my first llama.
The little red and white female I was so excited to take home had a very special story behind her. Linda Pierce, famously known for her world class llama herd and incredible heart had passed away from cancer only days after Namaste's birth. In a letter from Tom Carlisle to Linda shortly before her passing, Tom used the word "Namaste" to express how her incredible love for life and llamas touched so many. Linda had planned to name the next cria born on her ranch after this ancient Sanskirt blessing, but unfortunately didn't have the chance. In honor of Linda and her spirit, Tom had named the 3 month old girl I chose to start my herd with, "Namaste Linda". |
